Pediatric Dentist

At this age your child will start to lose their first teeth and the tooth fairy will be visiting your house frequently!

Around age 6, your child will begin to lose his or her baby teeth and gain permanent ones. Children often have trouble reaching the back teeth and tend to ignore the gum line, so pay attention to those areas.

In addition to losing teeth, your child will get four new permanent molars, called the ‘six year molars’ behind their baby molars. The six year molars take the space that has been created by the last three years of jaw growth. These permanent molars are at greatest risk for cavities in the first few months after eruption so regular dental visits and supervised brushing are extremely important.

Also during this time, Dr Paquin and Dr. Kiang will monitor for premature primary tooth loss in which case a space maintainer may be placed or he may refer your child to our orthodontist, Dr Gordon. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic evaluation at age 7.

Dental Sealants

We offer dental sealants, which are a safe and effective way to protect the permanent molars. Dental sealants are a thin layer of restorative material that is placed over the deep grooves of the teeth and prevents cavities.

Mouth Guards

As your child starts to become active with sports and athletics, they will be more prone to dental injuries. Make sure to talk with Dr. Paquin, Dr. Kiang, or Dr. Gordon about making a custom fitted mouthguard.
