Frequently Asked Orthodontic Questions
An Orthodontist creates an ideal smile and a proper functioning bite. Various appliances are used to achieve this such as space maintainers, palatal expanders, functional appliances (jaw-growth appliances), braces, and Invisalign.
Depending on the severity of the case and what we are trying to address, braces or Invisalign aligners are typically worn for between 4 and 24 months.
We use the latest technology, materials and techniques to ensure that forces are minimal and as efficient as possible. In today’s day and age, there is NO REASON for discomfort due to appliances. Our vast experience with patients of all ages allows us to anticipate and eliminate what might be uncomfortable over time.
Yes, we accept patients who have relocated from other areas and work with their previous dental providers to ensure a smooth transition.
A free initial consultation is the first step in determining what the right treatment is for you. All options will be discussed at the first visit.
Early treatment may create space to reduce the likelihood of needing teeth removed in the future. Correcting bite problems which could lead to jaw discomfort and/or asymmetric growth of the jaws are also benefits of early treatment. Protruding teeth that are re-aligned reduce the potential of tooth trauma. Taking advantage of the growth and development in the younger patient may also lead to better balance.
Correcting crooked, rotated, protruded, or tipped teeth are done either by clear or metal braces or Invisalign. While appliances to help stimulate jaw growth or widen the jaw can be done in the growing patient, options are different for adults. In our experience, in younger patients both correcting the bite and aligning the teeth are the ‘norms’ whereas in adult patients, alignment to improve the appearance of the teeth is the chief concern and usually takes less time to address than correcting the bite also.
Cost is generally determined by the severity of the issue. Usually, an affordable, convenient payment plan of YOUR choosing can be set up to reflect how you would like to pay for treatment. In addition, WE ACCEPT MOST INSURANCES.
NO! You may call our office to schedule a no cost initial evaluation if you deem it necessary.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial consultation at age 7. If no treatment is necessary, we may recommend seeing your child in 6-12 months to monitor the growth and development of their teeth and jaws. If recommended, early treatment could make future treatment less expensive, shorter in duration, and/or create space so as to avoid future permanent tooth removal.
